"F*cking Grammar!"

Since I had begun my English lessons in fifth-grade, I had no idea what an English was. I tried lots on my thinking for that question. One day, I can't remember when, I realized English was a language many people around the world used for communicating. At that time, English, only three things significant for me, speaking, listening, and reading.

Truly, I had never and ever loved in writing because of its rules. Today, I had a class called "College Composition" which is aiming to develop students' advanced writing skills. I also had no idea in this class, had no participation much when they were talking about Tense or Grammar. I didn't know whether what to answer..or...how to say about Tense or Grammar. In class, I did exercises in term of articles using, gap feeling, and some grammar reminding. For those contents, I could completely engage them, but when teacher exposed the answers, I,myself, had absolutely been stunned by those awful tense patterns.

I had no inspirations or any pushing forward energy for theses things...most answers were correct, yet there were a few incorrect answers which I realized they could be used in contexts, but the exposing were different, according to Grammar Theory....Somehow, I intended to understand what Grammar Theory had been identified. It indicated me to recall what I have been believing. Sometime, those things may not be occurred as I expected.

Question! : Why I have to depend on Grammar Theory when I'm writing something through my feeling, not through remembrances of those F*cking Grammar...

What is this tense?....It is a past perfect continuous tense...!! ridiculous!

Why don't we pay more attention to other significant things instead of memorizing those stuffs which may or may not improve your English abilities, by the way, significant things I mentioned are, e.g,. notion, belief, origination, self-confident, inspiration, faith and intention. Even though, those stuffs already infiltrated into your blood, they don't make any sense if you just only know what they are, but don't know how they are used...in order to indicating yourselves as "Real Englishers".

  1. Lucky you that you can build your insights and use English pretty effective. Anyway, in term of linguistics, it'd be better or not if you can describe how you do so, represented by your works?

  2. very thoughtful and critical view.
    I can't agree more.

English learning should go beyond memorizing grammar rules. Like you said, learners should have room to voice their EMOTIONS in any language they like, without worrying if what they articulate is GRAMMATICALLY wrong.

  3. That's right, Aj.Gob. I always doubted with Grammar, although I knew how to use it, perfectly and imperfectly. This awful strategy has been stuck with us for long time and it didn't seem to be activating to any remembrance's cell in tern of using English.

Why does government always want Thai students be good in English. Every year, most English teacher's positions were always lacking. Why?

Cause, Educational system has never been changed!

Want this, want that...blah blah blah, What da F*ck!

Instead of teaching our children speaking, what the heck did they always teach us?...F*cking Grammar.

That's why, English teachers were always lacking, Thai students couldn't be well communicating to foreigners.

Can they use paper and pencil writing while they have been asked for help from a panic, " Calm down!,Calm down!...in written"... :S, instead of saying something useful.

  5. don't you think it's not about only ENGLISH or speaking but about what language users hold in their head. Nothing? world knowledge.....that's the key.

how should you say, write, with whatever pencil, brick, or as long as you don't have any material in your head. empty! good English will be the empty one.

The whole educational system of my belove country has been killing us, not only through poor English mode, but the whole....

    go figure,
    Thai citizen?

  6. I beleive that Grammar is an important part of English. It cld make us convey the complete message to others! So, what about Englishers if they have no enough grammar? Mr. Joke, i always see and hear you blame our classmates when they express their grammar errors na!!!

But i rather agree with Boss and Joke that our Thai educational system has been still dilemmatic. THOSE in secondary school made a high barrier to us! They emphasized us GRAMMAR is the heart of Enlish so that we recognize English as GRAMMAR!!-- bad impression.

for my experience: i was always funny while studying in high school (เรื่อยเปื่อยๆ ชิวๆ). so grammar significance didn't hit my mind. I just love English! Then, i was open-minded that i need to study myslef because i had no other better way to stduy in class!!

    Cheers,
    a voice of Englishers

  8. @ Aj,Gob....big thanks again for your kindness, you already attacked
to my thought heavily. :P , I spent long time analyzing your comment and I'm not sure about that.

First, yeah, I always think about world knowledge, but world knowledge can not be taught. Have to learn by oneself. World knowledge can be directed by material, language. We have been fostered to recognize English as Grammar as Champ said.
That's why, when talking about English, everyone seems to be awful, because, what they had faced in the past, is still haunting them till now, Grammar. It's like a barbwire always blocking us from thing we called " World knowledge". Something of world knowledge can't be interpreted into Thai, have to use universal language as a key to crack those knowledge down, if you have a key, then world knowledge is not too far, but our keys are not strongly enough. We may know what it has been made for, but we still don't know how and where to use it perfectly.

Second was quite confused, um... I realized that, if had nothing in my head, knowledge, nothing I could do..:P

Ummm...I'm not sure about this and hesitate to answer...:S, but according to my quote on June 30, 2010 6:03 PM, last paragraph,
In fact, I referred to students faced with panic guy called for help, but they didn't know how to say, cause speaking skill was not strongly enough, don't know how to express ,then they picked paper and pencil up,wrote words " Calm down!, will call a policeman". I totally meant they didn't know how to react with an urgent situation where speaking skill is the most significant than others, cause they have been planted Grammar using at first instead of taught them speaking.

Our country is an EFL type, surrounding environment are definitely unsupported, why don't teach them a thing we have less. When everyone was born, no one learned writing, everyone learned speaking and reacting with others, that's why we called "Communication"...Every skill has it own benefits, I didn't say that Grammar has no any benefit, No, Grammar has lots benefits, but we always recognized that Grammar is a heart of English
impacting to other skills which seem not important enough.

    ^^... go figure,Thai citizen? <<<< totally confused....^^

Big thanks to Aj,Gob for critical comment....:P

  9. Regarding to stuffs we have in our brains, I totally agree with you, ajarngob and Sit With Me. I now realised English is used as A TOOL. Out there NO ONE corrects our ENGLISH abilites, but in the Uni classe it's opposite.

& how to give them stuff? I think students need to be exposed to various world contexts more and more; hopefully things they have learned finally become INSIGHT. Anyway, it DEPENDS on AGE of the student; this factor is really challenging for TEACHERS (and their teaching's plans ^.^).

THE WHOLE SYSTEM has been killing us!!! Then, what? (((Push Joke to be the PM or Edu' Min?? OMG 555))) We STRONGLY need to change LEARNERS' ATTITUDES towards that or even English Lang.(Actually this step should be placed as the 1st step in procedure. 555)

AS ENGLISH LOVERs, WHAT WE CAN DO?..

    Regards,
    Chubby B.

  13. To champ,

Eng380englishers might very much pay attention to their own business now (with tons of deadlines from crazy Boss G) and, most importantly,i see that the tone of this blog is much different from that of JOKE SYN which SUPER personal. Isn't it interesting?

bunches of thanks go to Joke for letting idiot readers get in....hahahaha.... i really love your words.

what should i say, more to Chubby, Pui, too. Our relationship among 4 of us now here where we are conversing to one another is going beyond a teacher-student relationship. We talk to our hearts, exhange our voices, share our giga...b of our cell brains as LOVELY HUMAN BEINGS (wow wow) who really want to see things better for ENGLISHERS, the present and the future generation.

    not for God'S SAKE,

You might observe that the ACTIVE are always active in whatever mode offered for them. The inactive haven't got affacted. I've observed those folks in my class. I know that it's hard to move a mountain.

Yet, it's my mission to take a student at a time (the greatest advice from my thesis's advisor)....
